# Other ways to start a course

> Beyond the AI course wizard — picking up a course you started on your phone, and the source-based paths (e-book, LinkedIn, podcast) that aren't open yet.

The [course creation wizard](/creating/wizard) is how you build a course in Vixi. You describe what you want to teach, answer a few questions, and Vixi generates the course for you. That single guided flow is the front door — when you choose **Create Course**, Vixi takes you straight into it.

This page covers the situations around that flow that aren't the main path: picking up a course you started somewhere else, and the source-based starting points you may have heard about that aren't open yet.

<Note>
  Today there is one active way to create a course: the AI wizard. The other entry points described below are either a way to **continue** a course you already started, or paths that are **parked for the future**. We've documented them honestly so you know what to expect.
</Note>

## Continue a course you started on your phone

The course wizard runs on desktop. If you start on your phone, Vixi saves your progress and hands it off so you can finish on a larger screen.

Here's how that works in practice:

<Steps>
  <Step title="You begin on mobile">
    If you type a course idea on your phone, Vixi saves it as a draft to your account and sends you to a **Continue on your computer** screen. The wizard itself doesn't run on a phone.
  </Step>

  <Step title="You log in on a computer">
    Open `https://create.vixiai.co` on a laptop or desktop and sign in to the same account.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Vixi offers to pick up where you left off">
    If you have a saved draft waiting, Vixi shows a short handoff screen with the course idea you typed and any [knowledge sources](/sources) you'd attached.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Continue building or start fresh">
    Select **Continue building** to drop back into the wizard with your idea and sources already filled in. Or choose **Start a new course instead** to discard the saved draft and begin from scratch.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  You don't have to do anything special to save your mobile draft — it's kept on your account automatically. Just sign in on a computer to finish.
</Tip>

## Resuming a course that's still generating

When Vixi is building your course, generation runs in the background. If you close the tab, refresh, or come back later, you won't lose that work.

Your in-progress courses appear on your dashboard. Selecting one takes you back to the right place in the flow so you can watch it finish or pick up where the wizard left off. You can read more about generation and your dashboard in [The course creation wizard](/creating/wizard).

<Note>
  Resuming only continues a course you already started. It doesn't create a new one.
</Note>

## Source-based paths (not open yet)

You may have seen mentions of building a course directly from an **e-book**, your **LinkedIn content**, or a **podcast episode**. These were early ideas for starting a course from a single document or feed.

Right now, none of these are an active way to start a new course:

  <Accordion title="E-books and LinkedIn">
    The screens for starting a course from an uploaded e-book or from LinkedIn content exist in the product but are currently **parked** — there's no button in the app that opens them for a new course. To build from your own material today, use the AI wizard and attach your files and profiles as [knowledge sources](/sources) instead. The wizard reads what you add and grounds the course in it.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Podcast episodes">
    Building a course from a podcast episode is a **future idea** — it isn't available anywhere in the app yet.
  </Accordion>

<Info>
  If you want a course based on a specific PDF, document, or LinkedIn profile, you don't need a separate path. Start the [AI wizard](/creating/wizard) and add those as [knowledge sources](/sources) — that's the supported way to ground a course in your own content today.
